Training
The Clinton Police Department Training Section is manned by Lt. Brandon Floyd. Lt. Floyd is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the training of the department’s sworn personnel as well as maintaining all related records.
Having a dedicated training section helps to ensure that the department’s officers develop new skills as well as to improve existing skills. The training section also ensures that the state mandated hours of annual training for each officer are completed and reported to the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (P.O.S.T.).
Sworn police officers are required by the Tennessee P.O.S.T. Commission to complete forty hours of yearly in-service training to include (8) hours of firearms training, (2) hours of emergency vehicle operations, 1 hour of child sex abuse investigations, and (1) hour of dealing with mentally ill persons. Most of the required training is completed in-house with a small portion of officers completing their training hours at specialized schools.
