On 11/06/2024 Officer Gideon Cobb responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of S. Charles Seivers Blvd. Once on-scene he made contact with one of the drivers, Joseph Boshears. Officer Cobb noticed Boshears slurring his words and appearing to be intoxicated. Suspecting that Boshears was under the influence of an illegal substance, Officer Cobb called for Officer Michael Wilson and K9 Sergeant Matthew Howell to assist him in the investigation. Officer Wilson, who holds a specialty certification in DUI investigations, conducted field sobriety tests on Boshears while Sergeant Howell deployed his K9 partner Tonto to conduct a sniff of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a clear plastic baggie in the center console with a white powder substance believed to be Fentanyl inside of it. The baggie contained 2.75 grams of the substance. This amount would have been lethal to many people. Boshears admitted to taking Fentanyl before the accident. Officer Cobb then placed Boshears under arrest and charged him with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Driving Under the Influence. These officers are to be commended for their tenacity in investigating a motor vehicle accident that ultimately led to removing more extremely dangerous drugs from our community! #ServiceBeforeSelf

On 11/17/2024 Officer Jessica Daugherty and Officer Emma Fantham (police trainee) were on patrol in the area of 2300 N. Charles Seivers Blvd. when they observed a vehicle with an expired registration. A traffic stop was initiated and contact with driver, John Parris was made. Parris stated he did not have a drivers license nor any proof of ownership for the vehicle he was driving. Parris then gave officers multiple dates of birth in an effort to hide his identity. Officers were able to obtain the correct personal information for Parris and discovered he was wanted out of Okaloosa County, FL for a parole violation. Parris was originally charged with Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property, and Robbery with a Firearm. Parris also had a passenger with him, Michele Grindstaff, who had an active warrant out of Blount County, TN. This display of excellent police work resulted in removing a violent felon from the city of Clinton ensuring it's citizens safety. Great job Officer Daugherty and Fantham! #ServiceBeforeSelf

The Clinton Police Department is proud to recognize Detective Sergeant Scott Gregory for his graduation from the University of Tennessee's National Forensic Academy. The National Forensic Academy is a 400 hour intensive training program at The University of Tennessee's Law Enforcement Innovation Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The program covers various forensic crime scene investigation techniques detailed through in-class and field practicum instruction. Det. Sgt. The City of Clinton’s K9 Officer Howell and his incredible partner Tonto had the honor of visiting Clinton High School today to give two exciting demonstrations to the school’s Criminal Justice classes. The students got a firsthand look at the vital work that K9 units do every day, from detecting drugs to providing support in law enforcement operations. These demos were not only an opportunity to showcase Tonto’s impressive skills, but also a chance to highlight the important partnership between law enforcement and the community. Officer Howell and Tonto are an invaluable part of our city, and we are grateful for their dedication and service! Thank you to Clinton High School for hosting this educational event and helping to inspire the next generation of law enforcement professionals
